I look it this way: I use the summoning stone, waste cash for something that I could have done without it. So why not just sell it every time and in the long run I'll have more gold and buy something I really need

I don't understand why ArenaNet seems to think that people want more summoning stones when they have such limited usefulness.

There are so many other consumables that provide better benefits and have almost no restrictions on their use. You can load up on consets all day as long as you have the gold to pay for them.

Despite that almost every consumable out there has no restriction in PvE, ANet wants to limit summoned creatures by having the nearly silly Summoning Sickness which pretty much kills it from being used in any serious party. A summoned creature can die within 10 minutes if you run into some bad luck. For me, the most useful summon that I've ever seen has to be the Mercantile ones, just because you can use them to sell loot or buy ID/salvage kits, and they don't even fight (or do much of anything) if you're using them right.

I don't know why they don't just go ahead and get rid of the useless Summoning Sickness since the game is easily run with gimmick builds even without the stones. Even if people do start buying the stones up and using them on speed runs... Who cares? At least it's junk that people have to craft and spend money at a NPC to get, and it'll actually serve as a modest gold sink.

For the same reason why you can only have 3 PvE skills per skill bar. It pushes you to party with other players.

This is how ANet makes sure that H/H teams are nerfed relative to human teams, which can carry a total of 24 PvE skills per team rather than just 3. Summoning sickness is just another way to promote partying.

Lol. I'm sure it'll work just as well for them as all the other things they've done to promote it. TBH, all they really need to do to promote party play, is add their own anti-noob code, which automatically loads a bot and takes over controls at the first hint of "Teh sux0r!", not unlike their already added anti-farm code and the super secretive (But there nonetheless) anti-fun code and the soon to be added anti-moldbreaker code..Just for those types who'd like to be different, or run builds the purists don't like...

I do use summon stones now and then - not needed but speeds things up and some do look cool. But Nic gives me so many that I gave away a ton to low levels for halloween and wintersday.
So I'll use 'em, and they are kinda cool - but I can't argue with people who don't like 'em.

Not unsurprising, really. Actually, outright expected considering the wording on the website; still, it was nice of them and it's not like we had to go out of the way to get it.

That being said, I'm flooded with summoning stones from Nicky and this, and I don't know what to do with them. (I tried to burn them on snowball farming during Wintersday and Wintersday Redux but evidently my boyfriend and I have accumulated so many we didn't manage to finish them.)

Eh. I don't mind summoning stones. They can be handy when vanquishing.

I do have about half a storage pane of various types of summoning stones, though. Probably will not use them all up any time soon.

Wrong. The reasoning is that PvE skills are quite OP compared to most skills, so its more of a power creep balance than anything. And even if ANet WERE trying to push people into partying with human players, there is the huge problem of about 90% of the game being a ghost town with no human players to party with.

No, again its an artificial and stupid means of power balance, and has nothing to do with partying. If ANet wanted to promote party play, they'd start looking at the three hero metas like Discordway and Sabway, and look into ways to nerf those. Its the fact that H/H is so effective and customizable, and generally faster and smarter than players in PvE that makes it more attractive than PUGing.

A power balance? A power balance that doesn't work if you have 8 players in your party. Unless you intend to be in one explorable area for at least 8 hours!

No, it is meant to nerf single player teams against multi player teams, encouraging players to party up. In the same exporable area, as long as your team does not have a living summon, a 8 player team can use a summoning stone every 7.5 mins on average while a 1 player team can only use it every 1 hour. That, is the effect of the summoning sickness.

Since each team can only have 1 living summon from a summoning stone at any one time, but summoning sickness is a character effect, not a team wide effect. Summoning sickness would, of course, effect single player teams more than multi player teams.

Same here. Nick likes giving me those...lol.
They are handy, but I'm overloaded on them. The event stones were a nice lil surprise that they didn't have to do and they're pretty when you use them.

Summoning stones may serve some function but so far I have been unable to find one. I think that I popped one once and failed to be impressed, so currently the stuff is almost as coveted as kidney stones, something that just clogs your system and is a general PITA, or in kidney stones' case, about five inches higher up.

Not that I'm complaining or anything, it's free stuff and all.

If I'm correct, they don't give party pts, so, pretty useless.

Snake oo, atleast they put some nice little effort into the animals that arn't in Guild Wars. Look at the horse and monkey awwww
Though i can't help wonder Why they didn't make the rooster a giant version of the little chickens/rooster birds on shing jea island. Wasn't too impressed with dog either, i know you want something magnificant but they shoulda made a giant version of the pug from the shing jea arena.
